Professor Jagannathan is the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Distinguished Professor of Finance and Co-Director of the Financial Institutions and Markets Research Center at Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

He has served on the editorial boards of a number of academic journals. He was the executive editor of the Review of Financial Studies, the editor of the finance section of Management Science, and an associate editor of the Journal of Finance. Currently he is an editorial advisor of the Journal of Investment Management and the Journal of Financial Econometrics, and an associate editor of the Journal of Portfolio Management.

His research areas include valuation, options/futures markets, portfolio management and portfolio performance evaluation. He has taught and written extensively on risk assessment of efficient portfolios and on understanding and evaluating mutual and hedge funds styles. He has also served as a consultant to various organizations.
